The countdown to celebrate one of the most important events on the fishing calendar in the Canary Islands has begun: I Deep Sea Fishing Tournament MARINA SAN MIGUEL - BERTRAM 50 Anniversary.
The legendary brand of fishing boats BERTRAM intends to celebrate its 50 anniversary in a very special way. In this sense, they seek to unite the best boats in and beyond the archipelago in the Marina San Miguel, a place they consider privileged to carry out this sport: its strategic position with the influence of the trade winds and near to the west of Tenerife where the water is usually calm, an hour and a half from La Gomera and 3 hours from Gran Canaria. All this will open a lot of fishing opportunities in the month of July that is the peak season for excellence.
Marina San Miguel is the only harbour in Tenerife able to host an event of this type they have the capacity and facilities of their new pontoons to accommodate boats from other islands. Apart from that the harbour offers hotels close by to accommodate fishermen and their families as well as two championship golf courses: Amarilla Golf, Golf del sur, a Pitch & Putt course, a horse riding club, etc…Available for all who wish to use them.
Deep sea fishing is one of the most exciting sports you can practice; it requires knowledge, strategy, teamwork, physical fitness, patience and good luck.
The tournament, in the form of catch and release, aims to promote healthy living outdoors, sport and the respect and conservation of marine life. This is for fishing without killing all species of billfish (blue marlin, white marlin, short-beaked marlin) and can only catch fish with the minimum established weight for tuna, swordfish and dolphin fish.
So far in Tenerife there has only been 1 day fishing tournaments focused on smaller catches. The idea is to put Tenerife in the Canary Circuit of major fishing tournaments and attract the best fishing boats and fishermen of international elite to the island. Currently there are similar tournaments in La Gomera, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
The tournament is a Qualifier for the IGFA Offshore World Championship to be held in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in May 2012.
The winner of the Marina San Miguel – Bertram Offshore Competition, the boat to reach the highest score, will be awarded with a place to participate in this World Championship fishing competition in Cabo San Lucas. This includes registration, flight and accommodation for 4 members of the winning boat.
A Great opportunity to bring together people from all over the archipelago, fishermen and families, about 400 people are to enjoy sea life at its best.
