Nine fish make justice

To Dr. António Ribeiro

Ten of the fifteen equip that participated in the Madeira Blue Marlin - II Trophy Dr. António Ribeiro, they fished or they had in the line a Blue Marlin, a fact that at once turns this edition of the organized competition for Big Game Clube of Portugal a success and a singular case in the number of fish - nine!! - captured and freed as they order the good practices.

Never in the Wood that it happened, what deserves the purpose of the event: to honor surgeon
António Ribeiro, former-champion of the World and of Europe, author of a lot of feats and who more it contributed to the promotion of the Madeira Island and of Big Game Fishing.
If during the day of Saturday they had been captured and freed four fish, with other three lost
before they be ratified the border close to, the second day of competition was exciting, with other
five Blue Marlin registados.

For 10.15 o'clock, António Ribeiro's children, José António and Roberto, they got to validate a capture, for at the 11.50 hours the crew of the 'Our Mary' - whose skipper is Madeiran José Serrão – to capture a fish.

It equips her/it of Barry Johonson got, same, to be the only that it captured and it freed two fish in
only one day, what was worth him/her the second place of the final classification, because in the
morning it took 13 minutes to ratify a capture and to the beginning of the afternoon it struggled more 25 minutes with other fish.

The great vedeta of the day would be, however, Mike Waren and the crew of the 'Omega', that when getting to fish and to free a second fish, in a fight of 21 minutes, it guaranteed the victory in this competition, being one of the two boats that they brought to the border two Blue Marlin, the second of the which to demand a fight of 21 minutes. A guaranteed advantage for the fact of it being the first to mark a fish.

Luís Leite had the fish that deserved, getting with that the seventh position.

In the ceremonial of Gifts delivery, the Regional Secretary of the Education and Culture, Dr. Francisco Fernandes, gave the Regional Necklace of Honor and Sport Merit that the Government of the the Madeira Island attributed to the Dr. António Ribeiro. The distinguished doctor, today with 95 years, it was not present for that moment but their children, José António and Roberto Ribeiro received the necklace.

Big Game Clube of Portugal, honored the Madeiran skipper, Mr. Virgílio Gavinas, as well as Mr. Stewart Campbell, the fisherman that more titles and records of the world show. And if he/she didn't forget about Spanish José Luiz Beustegui.

In the hour of the swinging, the capture and liberation of 9 fish Blue Marlin, the 90 sportsmen's of
eight countries presence - Portugal, Spain, England, United States, Germany, Holland, Russia and South Africa - they turned this tournament one of the great references of the modality, especially because the winner of the Madeira Blue Marlim - II Trophy Dr. António Ribeiro is select to represent the Madeira Island and Portugal in given prestige to him/it IGFA-Offshore World Championship, that is disputed in Mexico.

Remember that the event integrates, still, the International Circuit of Thick Fishing of Portugal, that qualifies her equips winner for to 51st edition of given prestige to HIBT-Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament, to argue in Hawai;

The winner In the end, the winner, Alan Myburg would highlight: Ours equips is very satisfied with this important victory. It would like before the more of to enhance the diamond work of the organization, of Marina of Calheta. Without a doubt that it was one of the best tournaments in than I participated.
We came to the Madeira Island with the objective from giving our best in this tournament. To work
plenty and always very concentrated. This tournament registry very good boats and very good
fishermen. When we take the fish today, we felt that with a little lucky we could take due the competition. We won and that is always very good. It was our day. This is my second fishing time in Madeira, the best place of the world for the practice of this sport. I will be to the end of the time because I intend to participate in the next July 4. Who knows if it is this year that I fish the "monster."  In South Africa all my friends are informed of everything that the Madeira Island offers at the level of the fishing, of the nature, of the knowledge to receive, of the fantastic people and I consider that these events are optimums posters of promotion of your island."
