2010 Bisbee’s Los Cabos Offshore Tournament Results

Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, MEXICO, October 18, 2010 —Teams Bad Company and Bandit were the top money winners in the 11th annual Bisbee’s Los Cabos Offshore Tournament, which concluded October 17th with a gala awards banquet on the beach overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Bad Company pocketed $83,020 for its 490-pound black marlin captured the first morning, while Bandit took home $80,047 for a 470-pound black scaled on the last day of fishing. Both boats (60-foot Viking convertibles) were entered across the board in the daily jackpot levels. Anthony Hsieh was the angler on Bad Company and Rich Hamilton reeled in the fish aboard Bandit.

The biggest fish of the tournament, a 540-pound black marlin, was caught by Barnes Cooper aboard Incognito, a Cabo 35. Cooper won $19,328 for his fish, which was fooled by a red/black plunger lure.

Aaron Riggins and his team of buddies from Texas took the most money in the gamefish standings after boating a 161.8-pound yellowfin tuna on Sunday. Missing Lenk, a Viking 53, earned $42,774 for that tuna. Jesus Franco, fishing aboard Muchacho Alegre, a 42-foot Uniflite, won $22,950 for a 155-pound yellowfin caught on the first day. No eligible dorado weighed, so the prize money for that category rolled over to the daily tuna jackpots.

Tenacious, a Monterey 65, was the top release boat based on two blue and one striped marlin. The other winners in the release division were Ez-Duz-It and Bull Rider.

For the first time, all contestants using live or dead natural bait were required to rig with circle hooks. That same rule will also apply to this year’s Black & Blue. Wayne Bisbee told the crowd at the awards banquet that decision was made based on recommendations from the advisory committee. A total of 55 billfish were caught during the two days of Los Cabos fishing, with five boated, for a release ratio of 90.9 percent.

“It’s been a fun tournament with some quality fish recorded,” Bisbee told the assembled crowd at the awards ceremony. “I’d like to thank all of our sponsors, especially Cabo Riviera, Baja Cantina, Hotel Buena Vista and Bahia Hotel, and all of our contestants. We’ve had great weather, some excitement and drama at the scales and steady action. I look forward to seeing every one again next year, starting October 14th, for the 12th annual Los Cabos Offshore Tournament.”

Nearly 250 anglers fishing aboard 59 boats competed in the Los Cabos Offshore Tournament. Eligible species included blue and black marlin weighing more than the 300-pound minimum, tuna and dorado. Striped marlin, spearfish and sailfish earned release points. In two days of fishing, three black marlin were boated, along with two blues. Fourteen blue marlin, 28 striped marlin and eight sailfish were released.
