International Governor's Cup Tournament

The Government of Baja California Sur is pleased to announce that the second annual International Governor’s Cup Tournament (IGCT) will be held in Cabo San Lucas May 5th through May 8th , 2009 – just five days prior to the IGFA Offshore Championship. The event will feature two days of competitive sport fishing with five distinct divisions including a Billfish Release division and four game fish weight divisions. With entry fees starting as low as $1,500 (USD) and an across the board entry of only $5,500, the IGCT is perhaps the most affordable tournament to be held in Los Cabos. Ninety percent of the divisional tournament entry fees will be paid out to the winning teams.

The second annual IGCT is also the first “Carbon Neutral” tournament to be held in Mexico making it the most environmentally responsible sport fishing event of its kind. Portions of the tournament proceeds will be used to purchase Carbon Mitigation Credits from Renewable Choice Energy, which will in turn be used to recapture Methane gas, a major contributor to global warming. The captured Methane will be used to produce clean, low-polluting electricity.

In addition to the environmental benefits, the tournament will also benefit the local communities of Los Cabos. Eighty percent of tournament registration fees ( $500 per team ) will be donated to three deserving charities; Casa Abuelito Feliz, a board and care facility for the elderly; Casa Hogar, a home for orphaned or displaced boys; and Casa Cuna, a home for girls and infants in La Paz. Tournament registration takes place on May 5th with fishing to take place on May 6th and 7th . Planned events include a kick-off party, nightly fiestas and social gatherings with a Tournament Dinner and Awards Night to be held on May 8th.

Join us in beautiful Cabo San Lucas for four days of camaraderie and competition and help the IGCT raise awareness of the threats of global warming within the sport fishing community and what sport anglers can do to help mitigate the effects while aiding the less fortunate members of the local community. Complete rules, regulations and schedules are available on the tournament website at http://www.cabotournament.com.
