297 anglers fished on 42 boats over the Easter period in Madang, Papua New Guinea. Boats came from all over PNG including an 800 n.mile trip from Port Moresby by IGFA rep Bob O'Dea on his new 35 Cabo. Anglers from PNG, Australia and New Zealand fished in teams on any two days of the nine tournament days.
The tournament was held in the spectacular waters off Madang in blue, blue water with lots of current, FADs, tropical reefs and seamounts. It was hosted by the Madang GFC, and based in the beautiful little marina in front of the Madang Club.
With team trophies covering all tackle categories, capture as well as T&R, and individual fish, angler and boat sections, the Presentation Night was a gala event held in the Madang Club with about 350 people seated.
The winning team in the medium tackle tagging division, Sean Middleton and his dad Capt. Brett received the invitation to fish the 2010 Offshore World Championship in Cabo San Lucas. Sean tagged four Pacific Blue Marlin on 10 and 15kg tackle over his two days fishing on Capt. Brett's boat Talio.
All fish weighed were donated to the Modilon District Hospital.
