The big game fishing competition Vilamoura White & Blue Marlin Tournament 2010 it is
distinguished as a qualification competition for the prestigious IGFA - Offshore World
Championship 2011, Cape St. Lucas, Mexico, and is integrates the Circuit Big Game Fishing's of
Portugal, to the end of the seasons qualifies to Circuit winning team to 52nd edition of the
prestigious "HIBT - Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament , Kona - Hawaii in 2011.
It is a competition for National Championship Big Game Fishing of FPPDAM - Portuguese
Federation Sport Fishing Offshore. The winning team as the team National Champion of Game
Fishing and Selection Big Game Fishing of Portugal to compete in the World Championship Big
Game Fishing, FIPS -M, to be held in Italy in 2011.
Vilamoura of Marina helps to promote this modality and is located in the Algarve. With the
excellent quality of their services, either in the host to mariners who travel there, as the anglers of
Vilamoura White and Blue Marlin Tournament 2010, we intend to honour the Marina of Vilamoura
and enhance its Hospitality, pretexts for the creation of Vilamoura White & Blue Marlin
Tournament 2010.
The Algarve asserts itself as a zone of excellence in the practice of big game fishing, as a mode
charge on defence, preservation of species and natural resources. These are attitudes basic of the
Big Game Club of Portugal, common to all its competitions .
Official presentation
At the official presentation of the competition was learned that the teams shown we have the
presence of two prestigious Spanish teams, Tanaka III captained by Don Ventura Torres and the
team Audaz captained by Pascual Dura. Chris Brand consecrated recently as the only winner of two
editions of the famous 4 July - World Cup Blue Marlin Championship, part aboard of the British
team Big Black One captained by Brent Arnold. Tó Neves, this year's compete in the team Big
White has also in His expertise two vice world championships, teams and clubs, respectively.
Relevant importance the participation of the team Sea Sunset , Capt. Carlos Jacob, team Vareiro,
Capt. Jose Gaioso Vaz , Team Albatross, Capt. Carlos Gloria, team Blue Dream , Capt. Franquelim
Reis, team Jocanana, Capt. Jeronimo Joana, German team Blue Shark, Capt. Tiago Palma, team
Barca Velha, Capt. Luis Leite, disputed points for the Trophies.
Interest
In this edition there are several reasons of interest, first by the abundance of Billfish, with the Big
Blue marlins leading the list of the fish considered for classification. The many trophies in
competition with the possibility to guarantee the presence of international prestigious competitions,
make this a competition greatly appreciated. The enthusiasm is great for Vilamoura White & Blue
Marlin Tournament 2010 .
EVENT
The Vilamoura White & Blue Marlin Tournament 2010 is a sport fishing competition in the
modalities of big game fishing, based at the Marina of Vilamoura. The Rules of Competition is
responsible for the Big Game Club of Portugal and is based on the rules of the IGFA -International
Game Fish Association, based “Catch & Release”.
Date : 4 and 5 September 2010 .

The Captains Meeting held in the main room of the Marina of Vilamoura and Cocktail Welcome
aboard the "Condor de Vilamoura”, superb sailing, real ex-libris of Vilamoura Marina owned by Mr.
Manuel Vital open the competition. The 1st dinner and the official ceremony and closing dinner
held in the magnificent Forum Dom Pedro Golf Hotels and are include, in the registration fee .
ORGANIZATION
The initiative of the competitions is the Big Game Club of Portugal, community founded in 2006 in
Portimão. Has the support and partnerships from Marina Vilamoura and Hotel Dom Pedro Golf.
PURPOSE
To qualify the winning team for a prestigious international tournament, IGFA - Offshore World
Championship 2011, Cape St. Lucas, Mexico, and scoring points for the competitions of the Circuit
Big Game Fishing's of Big Game Club of Portugal in 2010 and qualify for the National
Championship Game Fishing in Portugal's 2010 FPPDAM - Portuguese Federation of Sport Fishing
Offshore, are the sportive purposes.
Promote the region of Algarve as an excellent “hot spot” for big game fishing, (where is possible
found the big fish with great sport valuable), and attract the greatest number of fishermen
enthusiast, national and international, are also our proposes.
IMPORTANCE
The winning team of Vilamoura White & Blue Marlin Tournament 2010 is invitated to represent
Vilamoura and Big Game Club in Portugal in the IGFA - Offshore World Championship 2011.
The event also scoring points to the Circuit of Big Game Fishing in Portugal, described the winning
team for the 52nd edition of the prestigious HIBT - Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament to
be held in Hawaii.
PARTICIPANTS
Additional information for the team Albatross, National Big Game Fishing Champions in title and
also winning the Circuit of Big Game Fishing in 2009 - Big Game Club of Portugal. Chris Brand
winner of 4 July - Blue Marlin World Cup twice, Antonio Neves, and the team Spanish Audaz of
Pascual Dura conquerors in Spain of all there is to win as well as winning the World Cup South
Africa's in Richard Bays and Javea , they note the importance and notoriety of the participants.
The fleet will be further represented by the most renowned fisherman national with aspirations to
the trophies.
RULES
Keen to promote a fishing without death , the rules are based on international rules of sport fishing
sponsored by IGFA -International Game Fish Association. The Big Game Club of Portugal , the
promoter of this competition, lays down in its rules a system that encourages the release of fish by
assigning 1600 points to the Blue marlins and 350 points for White marlins , for example brought to
the edge of the boat and released. Beat the angler / team more fish release and for the purpose of tie
is considered the hour of the first fish caught tie-breaker , according to the Rules of Competition of
the Big Game Club of Portugal. The catch must be verified by the recording of a video, the action
of fishing, species identification , time of release and condition of fish .
IMPACTS
The holding of this event brought to the Marina of Vilamoura about 80 athletes , highlighting the
fact that move around ships in the Algarve , two teams of Spain, a team from Germany, and athletes
from countries like England , France , Belgium, Holland and Venezuela.

Productions , Inc.. Honoured us with their presence Mr. Paul and Filomena Watson directors and
journalists of Marlin World Magazine and Strike Button Productions Ltd., who covered the whole
event , with coverage in the air, at sea and ashore. We counted for this purpose in collaboration with
the Algarve Helicopter. Soon we had the official DVD of the competition .
AWARDS
Wins the team that more fish to catch and release and for the purpose of tie is considered the hour of
the first fish tie-breaker , according to the Competition Regulations of the Big Game Club of
Portugal. The catch must be verified by the recording of a video of the action of fishing proven with
the code of the Day, delivered at each outlet .
The winning team qualifies to participate in the prestigious IGFA - Offshore World Championship
2011.
The trophies are sculptures unique of the event and certificates of participation to all athletes
registered .
Day 1
Five Blue marlins released dot and ensure the classification of the winners of Vilamoura White &
Blue Marlin Tournament 2010 !
7:30 pm: Boat ready and Helicopter does not appear . The impatience of one who is "ready "and
have the "red line " runs out . Are minutes of tension, but the wait ! The start is given with a delay
of 10 minutes of the scheduled time , that Mr. Watson advantage of morning light and sign aerial

The team Big White had a first attack early on, without which the fish had stayed, and later is the

However the team Albatross that by nearby haunted , in response to a question in VHF the Capt.
Jerome Joan team Jocanana , announced combat in direct . I could not believe I thought it was a
joke between them, for they had just passed by us. Herein, still following the conversation , I hear
the VHF Jerome to comment ... " Gorgeous , I see the fish jumping ! Oops ... no joke , really
seriously because when I looked in the direction of Albatroz also saw the foam splash left by
jumping fish. It was like give “gas” to Fernando Luis and all of us . Fernando Luis, plays the
pumping who those boys will not help . I knew that Carlos would quickly up the fish and that
Francisco Cruz not rejoiced a millimetre line to finish , not wrong.
Aboard the Big White shouting encouragement to the Fernando Luis were more than many, "Wow ,
wind , low, rising, force ...", until the fish reaches the boat , alive and captured. Leader in hand, Tó
Neves announced the capture by VHF . It was not long , a few minutes apart , scarce and team
Albatross also announced his capture , the second marlin blue of the tournament.
The fish were released in good condition, being the first , the team Albatross to release their fish, as
fish from team Big White had hooks and spiked and were impossible to remove , and the team
decided to cut the line as close as possible and release the fish, which was always in good condition.
At 14:04 hours the team Sea Sunset aboard the Francisco, confirm that the fisherman Simon
Dedman catch a marlin blue and released him in good condition.
By 16:41 hours it's time to team Jocanana with Manuel Viana in the chair, unable to score, with the
capture and release of the fourth Blue Marlin Tournament .
The team Big Black One that has headed into the earth due to malfunction a of the machines also
had their fish, have caught and released a beautiful Blue Marlin , the fifth of the tournament,
estimated at over 3 meters , the fisherman was Bob Seppings .
The team Blue Dream aboard the Super Flow had different performance. Already after hook a Blue
Marlin , the sixth of the tournament, and when they are fighting a technical problem cut them the
possibility to rely on the machines . The engines stop. An engine first and minutes later , another.
Without machines , the result was the need to embark on a blue marlin (died) estimated at 350
quilos , delivered the two institution solidarity. This donation included the operation and support of
the Marine Police . This fish no receive points!
Day 2
At 09:06 hours the team Albatross announced the capture of a Blue Marlin , that after confirmed the
capture , it came off the hook a few meters , few of the surface next to the boat. By misfortune Team
Albatross , fish viewed in the video presented, it was not possible to identify, not getting so the
corresponding points required for victory.
Technical Committee , with the option of both, Augusto Figueira and Carlos Glory, not to interfere
in the decision , since both belonged to teams ranked in the first place.
Closing Ceremony
The ceremony was presided by Commander Chief of Capitania do Porto de Faro and 2 of
Commander of Zone Seas the South , President of FPPDAM - Portuguese Federation Fishing of
High Seas Mr. Eduardo Cunha, President of the Big Game Clube de Portugal Mr. Augusto
Figueira , Director Forum Dom Pedro Golf Hotels Luis Lopes and Mr. Manuel Vital representing
the Marina.
Presented our thanks with the symbolic presentation of saved entities these Captaincy of the Port of
Faro, Vilamoura Marina and the Dom Pedro Hotels , the people present on their behalf.
